Applications are open from September 1st to October 7th, 2022, for the selection process for up to three research and technological development grants. These grants will be used to conduct research and development activities for object recognition on the sea surface using Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the scope of the Science and Technology Development Project "Tripulante Virtual - Autonomous Search System," coordinated by Prof. Dr. Filipe A. N. Verri of the Computer Science Division of the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA), co-executed by a project by the CERTI Foundation.
The Autonomous Search System (AuSSys) project is part of the Air Domain Study (ADS) program of the Brazil-Sweden Cooperation in Aeronautics, which aims to better understand the future air domain. The AuSSys project involves the development of software for recognizing objects on the sea surface using AI for automated classification of sea surface imagery, enabling the identification of objects such as vessels, wrecks, and individuals, even small ones, on the surface or at shallow depths.
The selected fellows will develop, under the guidance of the project team, the following activities:
Technical support in adapting the model training module already developed in the POC for thermal imaging sensors;
Support in improving the software modules developed for the solution's proof of concept (training/validation module, prediction module, and operator console);
Verify and validate the final versions of the software and AI models developed.
The target audience consists of graduates and specialists in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields, preferably with two or more years of software development experience. Desired skills include programming, image processing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
The scholarship will be awarded by the Casimiro Montenegro Filho Foundation (FCMF) for up to 24 (twenty-four) non-extendable months, in the monthly amount of R$2,805.00, corresponding to 20 hours of weekly activities, as long as the student maintains their affiliation with ITA.
Applications must be submitted electronically using the online form available here. Required documents:
Updated Lattes CV, available at http://lattes.cnpq.br/;
Letter of interest and motivation (up to 1 page); and
Undergraduate transcript (incomplete, if currently enrolled).
Videoconference interviews will be scheduled from October 7th to 14th, 2022.
The deadline for posting placements is November 1st, 2022, via the email address provided in the application.
